You may have heard rumors about a special event at Lewis Jewelers! We are excited to confirm the rumor to be true. On Friday, April 29, 2016, Slade and Cindy Lewis, with their family and close friends, gathered at Texas Children’s Hospital Renal Department for a special occasion. Doctors and nurses stood among the group on the 8th floor, beaming as the unit was officially named The Lewis Jewelers Dialysis Unit. This significant moment in our history was brought about by not only the passion of the Lewis Jewelers family, but also you, our community.
Some of you may not know the story, but it’s a great one! In 2006, a desire to serve the renal department was birthed in Slade and Cindy’s hearts after witnessing firsthand the staff’s compassionate dedication to their child, Levi, and his fellow patients. As one of the largest pediatric programs in the world, Texas Children’s Hospital Renal Department treats infant to adolescent patients with congenital and acquired kidney diseases. As if the caliber of their care were not enough, the department outdoes itself with enriching life experiences for the patients through kid’s camps, activities, proms and mentor programs. Service like this must be honored.
That year, we embarked on a journey to do whatever we could to build support for the unit. Our Clear Lake and greater Houston community has rallied behind us for nine consecutive years, generously donating and bidding on silent and live auction items at our anniversary parties. Strong supporters also emerged from our jewelry community. World-renowned watch brand, Breitling, donated once-in-a-lifetime experiences: flights with their jet pilots. Rolex also donated stainless steel Submariners for raffles. Due to the tremendous success, Slade and Cindy created the LD&T Foundation in 2011 to benefit the renal department. Over the years, Lewis Jewelers has become the second greatest donor for the renal unit!
We are incredibly humbled by this honor, and we hope you will see that you are deeply part of it: we requested the name Lewis Jewelers for a reason, it represents all of us. What we have done to impact the lives of families is at the core of who we are as a store, and one of the highest values we share with you, our community. At the end of the day, all we have are people, and it has been our privilege and pleasure to be in the thick of this movement to serve. Thank you for partnering with us.
Thank you also for your trust for the last 35 years. This November marks our 35th year of business. We hope you will join us for drinks, food and fun as we party like it’s 1981. Until then, enjoy a few glimpses of anniversary parties past.
